Niner Bikes, the maker of uber-hot 29-inch-wheeled hard- and soft-tails, has just recalled its Jet 9 full-suspension bike over problems with broken welds. The voluntary recall, which is not in conjunction with the Consumer Product Safety Commission, affects 500 to 600 units.

Okay, it’s not the worst bike recall ever. That prize would have to go to something like like broken steerer tubes or forks. But the Consumer Product Safety Commission has just announced problems with SRAM’s PowerLock connectors on its bike chains.

It feels like a good day to be in motion. Maybe a little biathlon’s in order. Start off with a little mountain biking, end with a sunset run. Yes, indeed, that would be a perfect day. Especially if it opened with slickrock and closed with wildflowers. Well, free desktops are good a beginning.

Plus, after years of coughing up a lung in pursuit of my ultra-fit riding companion Joe Sagona, I was actually in front setting the pace. Comeuppance was just around the corner.

Next time you think the drops on Poison Spider or the end of Porcupine Rim are something to watch out for, consider the Cliffs of Moher on the west coast of Ireland, where Hans Rey put in yet another epic riding session. Almost 700 feet and dead sheer, they’re the kind of mountain biking hazards that’ll make you back off your cleat tension—or just plain back off.

Specialized Bikes is recalling 17,000 mountain and road bikes in two separate, voluntary recalls. Handlebars on 14,000 mountain bikes can break, which could kind of be a problem. Also, 3,000 Roubaix road bikes have an issue with a cable stop, which can come loose.

Having a bad tax day? Bummed about the economic implosion? Spending all your waking hours worrying about the future of journalism in the online age? Remember, it could be worse. And for you it gets better, cause whoever writes the best caption for this photo wins.

What do you think about allowing mountain biking in national parks? Should cyclists have access to some trails? All trails? No trails? If you want your opinion heard, get on it: The comments period ends Tuesday, February 17, on a proposed National Park Service rule.
