You don’t have to be a skier to appreciate this clever stop-motion film, but it helps in order to understand the title. “Pillow Line” refers to the delightful mushrooms of snow that form on top of boulders–when the snow is deep enough and the slope steep enough, you can ski a route that’s like dropping from downy pillow to downy pillow. Kari Medig of Nelson, B.C., put it together for the photo competition of last weekend’s Cold Smoke backcountry fest. Wonderful!
Medig was inspired by Eyal Landesman’s “Her Morning Elegance”, which you can see below. I’m guessing Amazon’s agency was, too, when they created the charming little ad, “Fly Me Away”, for Kindle, also below. A bit of trivia: The song was performed by musician Annie Little, who’s also the model in the commercial.
If Amazon was motivated by Landesman’s film, it wouldn’t be the first time commerce was influenced by art. Last year, Olympus made this mind-blowing time-lapsey film for its EP-1 camera and was accused of copying the work of Japanese artist Dokugyunyu. Both are worth avoiding your work a little longer watching.
And, hey, let’s just keep the videos rolling. Here’s a 30-second behind-the-scenes from the Kindle ad.
