if these earthquakes are shortening our days, does this mean that other earthquakes are lengthening our days or will the earth just continue to spin faster and faster?

Though this is fascinating news – the margin is so small I doubt that it will effect anything in our life time.

These are geological events that have happened over the entire history of our planet. They have nothing to do with Biblical cataclysms that rhyme more with paranoia and ignorance. If we were all to fret about the fairy tales in the bible, we’d waste our lives worrying about nothing rather than living. I personally think it’s great that we have advanced enough as a race to understand these things which give hope that we will be able to avoid or even control them one day. I suppose as long as we are passive observers and don’t completely understand everything, the religious fanatics will always be able to point to a God. Happily these fanatics are still a minority and reason triumphs.

For me, it’s sounds like these verses being fullfil:
Mt. 24:7 For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes, in divers places.
Mt. 24:22 And except those days should be shortened, there should no flesh be saved: but for the elect’s sake those days shall be shortened.

Mt 4:17 From that time Jesus began to preach, and to say, Repent: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.
