Well, we really can’t whine about the paucity of creative ski films any more. After a decade or so of superficial, formulaic entries to the culture of winter cinematography, we’ve been blessed with a number of ambitious projects. Signatures is the most soulful bit of ski movie to hit the screen in years, and because of it I’m gonna be in Hokkaido, Japan, next January, letting the snow fall on me. Generations, from the Teton Gravity folks, tackled climate change and recently made the rounds on Capital Hill to encourage legislative efforts on the environment. Swift. Silent. Deep. artfully tells the story Jackson Hole Air Force. And tonight, airing on Showtime at 8 p.m., is the Edge of Never, which tells the story of 15-year-old Kye Petersen skiing the off-piste run in Chamonix that killed his father, Trevor.
Edge of Never is dramatic, powerful, and beautifully shot. You should watch it.
