Solve the Mystery of the Unidentified Alps

Here’s something to noodle on while you’re lounging in post-holiday sloth: The Library of Congress has piles of images in its collection that it can’t identify. It has crowdsourced the sleuthing work via its Flickr page, and here’s one from somewhere in the Alps shot in the 1890s, which commenters seem to think is St. Moritz. How about you–any ideas?

I say take it up a notch, who has a modern photo from a similar vantage point? The buildings may not be there, but unless CERN swollowed them up the mountains should still be kicking…

Winner gets fame and recognition in case of success.

Okay, this was fun. I did a google search and came up with this…

“The leaning tower is a landmark from the 12th century and part of the St. Mauritius Church that was demolished in 1890. To this day it has remained one of the most spectacular sightseeing attractions in St. Moritz. Height: 33 m. Inclination: 5.5 degrees.”

…so it could be St. Moritz.

This is definitely Saint Moritz. You have the leaning tower of the church as already identified and I have seen this postcard in a book on St Moritz. That is unless I am mistaken…
