It’s been more than a year since MSP was putting together Claim, but that doesn’t mean its footage isn’t worth dusting off now. This little seggie of Antoine Montant proves that being French requires imagination, balls, a more than casual flirtation with high-speed mishaps, and the embrace of what some might call stunts. Hey, today he’s Jerry Lewis, tomorrow a comic genius.
But just as with Cirque du Soleil, you can’t not watch, and you will likely find yourself saying “sick” and “TFU” with equal measure. Escaping an avalanche with a parachute? Speed riding fakie? High angle cratering, dropping a ski, and somehow self-arresting to say, “Eet’s all good”? That’s fucked up. Sick, too. You can’t not watch.
It’s a little long, but worth sticking around to see the beater-recovery-dustoff at the end.

Despite the title of the post, I find that the highlight is the fall and self-arrest on a 50/55 degree slope, starting with a high-velocity fall, and pretty close to a serac drop-off.
Moving on a north face as steep as the Aiguille du Midi loaded with fresh snow, one can almost expect to trigger an avalanche. It would be impressive for a “ground” skier to escape it, but the “speed-rinding” skier can readily fly whenever needed, so it’s kind of part of his game plan.
