As smackdowns go, it’s not exactly the octagon. I’ve seen more mayhem between yoga moms fighting over the last bunch of organic bananas at Trader Joe’s. And I don’t know which is worse for this would-be bike thief–the girlie blows thrown by his apprehenders or the fact that he’s all over YouTube in denim manpris and a bright green Malibu Stacy helmet. Regardless, for all those of us who’ve had a bike stolen and fantasized about catching the mofos, here’s a video you need to see.
The backstory: Messenger locks bike, sits down for brunch, see dude with drill attacking his lock. The rest is right here.
It’s not quite the same as the bike thief video, but in this clip two brothers set out “steal” their own bike in broad daylight in New York and see the reaction of onlookers.

Epic.
Your commentary is better than the video.
that second video is superscary.
take home message? don’t spend more than a few hundred on a bike you are going to leave anywhere outside in NYC
Hmm, thanks for sharing the vids, this is fun/interesting stuff.
Steve, I like you’re blog, but this post hits a nerve, and this is the internet so I’m supposed to say whatever pops into my head, right?
It’s so common in our culture, especially the adventure or outdoor culture, to refer to feminine attributes with derision and scorn. ‘Girly’ blows and ‘Malibu stacy’ helmet. If we want to encourage girls and women to feel confidant and welcomed into the outdoor community, we need to stop using them as insults and shaming language.
Kate TC women are welcome just as much as men. But it is a fact of life that they cant hit as hard as men and no one wants them to. No one looks down on them no one is making fun of women its just the facts. By you ideology women should compete with men in the Olympics and all other forms of sports. Its just the truth give up on the idea that men and women are the same in regards to competition and athletic ability it just not true. There are some bad ass women and bad ass men but the truth is they are not equal and its ok no one is degrading anyone its just the facts.
