More than anyone else, National Geographic photographer Ami Vitale is responsible for me switching from Canon to Nikon equipment–well, Ami and the incredible Nikon D3 camera. The longtime Nikon shooter raved about the D3’s low-light performance, its fast drive, and its intelligent exposure settings, so I set about testing it for myself. Well, I was blown away, and having spent something north of $13,000 to make the switch, I’m now happily Nikon.
The one thing the D3 didn’t have–and doesn’t–is the ability to shoot video. Well, a new Nikon, the D300S, does, and Vitale just shot her first video with this $1,800 rig. While we were enjoying her still work and thoughtful interview here at The Adventure Life last week, she was in India putting the finishing touches on a short film for Nikon. You can see the YouTube version by clicking above or go here for the high-res clip on the Nikon site.
One more thing: Do you really want to know how to make better pictures? Get yourself to India in September. Vitale is teaching a 13-day workshop in Delhi and Ladakh through Lumen Dei photo tours. Cost $3,600 inclusive–you just have to get to Delhi. Info here.
