For the last year or so, I’ve been experimenting with making spherical panorama images (360 degrees in all directions), which are super-hard to do well, and every once in awhile I come across one that’s so good it’s both inspiring and totally discouraging. That’s the case with this sick aerial pano of Hookipa State Beach on the north shore of Maui.
Making a spherical panorama is tough enough—you need a special head for your tripod like the Nodal Ninja 5 and software to stitch together your images—without having to shoot from the air, as Aerial Pan does. These guys have it dialed, which they damn well should since they’re selling their aerial shooting services, and you can pretty easily lose yourself immersed in their virtual world.
Anyway, if you haven’t already clicked on the link to the Peahi panorama, do it now. Dunno how it is on a PC, but with Mac you zoom in with the Shift key, out with the Control key, and navigate with left mouse.
Oh, and if you’re on Maui today, the surf report is 1-2…
